Fall 2011 Electronic Publishing and Design Semester Project

Introduction

My name is P.J. Roberson and I am just finishing up my first semester of college. I am from Rocky Mount, North Carolina although I went to boarding school in Lynchburg, Virginia at Virginia Episcopal School for high school. Boarding school helped me prepare for college in both the aspect of independence and the work load. When I came to college I felt like I was ahead of many other students because I had already lived away from home for three years. The only main difference between college and boarding school is that in college there is a lot more freedom, therefore I have to be on top of my school work in order to do well and actually get it done. I either want to major in Business or Arts Management, although it changes everyday. The most important aspect of the class that I think will help me the most after college is learning how to code an HTML. I think that is the most important because the world is moving towards technology, therefore knowledge of the internet and graphic design is crucial in all industries. After college I want to take a year off and travel the world and then I want to move to New York City and work in the fashion industry.

Class

Before I started this class, I was very excited because I felt like this would be an easy course to start off with. Although this course hasn't been the cake walk I anticipated, I have learned valuable information that I will hopefully be able to use throughout my college career and even after. The most important aspect of the class was the hands on learning approach that Professor Moore took to teach us. Doing projects in class gave me the ability to learn and practice as well as the ability to ask questions if I needed help. I liked that the class was divided into two sections. For the first few half of the semester, we worked on InDesign and some Photoshop projects. The next half was designated to working with HTML. This website shows what I have worked on in class this semester.
